Spending Time with God in Our Busy Lives
“Enoch walked faithfully with God; then he was no more,
because God took him away.”
Genesis 5:24 (NIV)
Usually Wayne writes the article for the newsletter, but this month I wanted to share my heart with you.
Each day as I think about sitting down and reading my Bible or doing my quiet time, my mind starts thinking about my ever-growing to-do list. I remember a load of laundry that needs to be folded and put away and another load that needs to be transferred from washer to dryer, emails or texts I forgot to send, and the list goes on and on. My mind tells me to just skip my time with God and work on my to do list. I eventually (not every day) do what my mind is telling me to do and skip my time with God. I become Martha instead of Mary. Soon it is bedtime and I have not had my quiet time with God in His word. I wish I could say this only happens once in a while, but really it happens more than I care to admit.
I see God not looking down on me in disappointment but with His hand open saying come spend some time with me. He does this with all of us.
Enoch’s relationship with God was one where he walked in step with God. He did not walk behind God, missing His leading. He didn’t walk in front of God, without His guidance. Enoch walked with God! He kept pace with God. If it were me, I think I would either be running and out of breath just trying to keep up or lagging behind. Can you imagine keeping pace with God spiritually?
Enoch’s relationship with God did not happen over-night. It was from frequent conversations with God daily and sometimes several times a day. Keeping the communication open and asking for forgiveness of his sins when he did fall short. God loved Enoch so much he simply took Enoch away. How awesome is that!!!
We can walk with God through our worst situations and our best situations. His invitation is open for you and me. We have the privilege of walking with God every day. This requires that we choose Him over every distraction. Let’s do this together! I’m starting NOW!!! Love you guys!
